    Multihy goes live! Visit www.multihy.eu. The ASC is a partner in the new FP7 programme, led by Dr Katzarov and Professor Paxton and holding nearly half a million euro in funding. MultiHy is a project funded by the 7th Framework Program of the European Commission under the theme “Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials and new Production Technologies”. The project has a combined budget of 5.3 mil € (including EU and partner contributions) and will run from the 1st of May 2011 until the 30th of April 2015.

    The ASC is very pleased to welcome Mario Del Pópolo as a Lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Physics. An expert in statistical mechanics, Mario has been with us since 2006 as an RCUK Academic Fellow. We all join in congratulating him on his advancement to a permanent position, and we look forward to continuing our work together.

    All members of the ASC warmly congratulate Jorge Kohanoff who has been elevated to a Chair in the School of Mathematics and Physics. We have all benefited from his excellence and collegial leadership in research which have led to this well deserved appointment.

    We welcome Dr Rich Bingham to the ASC. He will be working with Pietro Ballone and Mario Del Popolo on the Leverhulme project to investigate self-organised lipid layers under electric fields.
